About Me

Who am I?

Well first and foremost I am a proud Mum of two daughters and Nana to my first grand-gaughter. We are very close and I constantly learn from them. I am an Associate Professor (Learning and Teaching) at Sheffield Hallam University in Digital Analytics and Technologies within the Department of Computing and Digital Technologies. I am the LTA (Learning, Teaching and Assessment) Lead working with academic colleagues to enhance the way we as professionals learn, the way we teach, and the way we assess our students. I am also one of the university SOTL (Scholarship of Learning and Teaching) Leads at Sheffield Hallam.

My research interests include social media and technology enhanced learning and I am regularly invited to give keynotes and guest lectures nationally and internationally.

I am also a Visiting Professor at Arden Univeristy and a Visiting Fellow at Edge Hill University.

In 2017 I was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship. I am also a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Senior Fellow of the Staff and Educational Development Association, and a Certified Management and Business Educator.

Reflections on my National Teaching Fellowship

I hold an MSc in Technology Enhanced Learning Innovation and Change and an MA in Communication and Media Studies. Other qualifications include a PgCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and the SEDA-PDF Supporting Educational Change. In 2021 I commenced a part-time PhD in Educational Research at Lancaster University.

My research interests include the use of social media in higher education and active technology enhanced learning. I have presented widely in these areas nationally and internationally as an invited keynote and guest speaker. A list of my keynote and conference presentations in this blog and on my
university profileResearchGate, Academia.edu and Slideshare profiles.

I am the co-founder of the international #LTHEchat (Learning and Teaching in Higher Education chat) which began in 2014 and I continue to lead this weekly CPD event with the support of a rolling group of educators who volunteer to be part of the organising team. I'm also the co-founder of the cross-institutional open online course Bring Your Own Device for Learning (BYODL) which was shortlisted for the ALT Team Award in 2014.

I am a member of the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) Exec Committee, co-founder of the SEDA Technology Enhanced Learning in Practice SIG and have been a facilitator at the SEDA Summer School and a member of the SEDA Papers Committee. In 2025 I took on the role of Communications Officer for the Association of National Teaching Fellows Committee.
